Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based therapy grounded in neuroscience and nervous system regulation.

That means we’ll be treating stress that’s lodged in your body and registering in your mind.

Somatic therapy is a kind of counseling that helps your body calm down, not just your thoughts. It teaches your brain and body how to feel safe again by noticing things like breathing, tight muscles, and body signals, so stress and trauma don’t stay stuck inside you.

Somatic therapy helps reduce overwhelm and return to balance.

As your recovery pathways strengthen, your system responds to stress with more ease, adaptability, and efficiency.

Here’s what it looks like…

You’ll learn to track physical sensations, breathing patterns, and subtle internal shifts.

You’ll start to recognize stress earlier. That awareness creates a response choice.

In sessions, you’ll practice identifying body sensations. With the grounding presence of the therapist, you’ll rehearse increasing and then releasing tension, teaching your body that “what comes up, must come down“.

You’ll stop avoiding uncomfortable emotions or neutralizing them with alcohol, substance abuse, or staying busy. You’ll learn to make space for the emotion, teaching your body how to return to balance without overwhelm.

Of course, our somatic therapy sessions will be aligned with your short- and long-term therapeutic goals,

And we’ll answer your questions and make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.

Josh’s* Somatic therapy story…

Josh was an Ivy League graduate with an impressive job and enviable salary.

From the outside, his life seemed perfect. A respected high achiever. A father. A husband. But internally he was suffering. Doctors could not control his high blood pressure. Body aches and headaches did not respond to massage, medication, or chiropractic work.

He worried about his health. His wife complained about a temper that was “0-60”. He felt disconnected from the people he loved.

After completing just a few sessions of Somatic therapy…

He started noticing all the parts of him that had been neglected. He recognized a fear of expressing his needs. Needs for rest. Needs for nurturing. Needs for support. When he finally made contact with the parts of himself that had been silenced for so long, he started trembling, sweating, and then felt a burst like a dam breaking, followed by an intense wave of relief.

He finally found the release valve.

Now he has reorganized his memories and responses to difficult emotions. He has increased his capacity to communicate before his frustration becomes explosive, and found new fulfilling ways to connect with his loved ones. He also found relief from physical symptoms that plagued him for years. (And fired his chiropractor).
